"I got an F and a C and I got a K too, and the only thing that's missing is a bitch like U." Name: Grace Carrighan
History: Grace was born to an upper middle class family in Chicago. She was two minutes younger than her twin sister Celine. Both girls were blue eyed and blonde haired and cute as buttons. Grace learned to speak and read faster than her sister. Before she went to school Grace had learned how to read books for teenagers, while Celine could just about manage first grade level reading. Grace's parents had her IQ tested and were delighted when they discovered Grace's standards were off the charts. She was a child genius. When they were kids, Celine was happy for her when Grace went to a special school for child geniuses. She was a whiz at maths, science, pretty much anything she could put her mind to. She could have been a brain surgeon if she wanted to. Grace however, realised she would much rather play with GI Joe than Barbie. Grace wanted to be a solider, not a doctor or brilliant scientist. As soon as she was old enough, Grace enlisted in the Marines. Her parents were livid. Grace had gained herself an M.D. from Harvard Med and also a PhD in computer science from M.I.T. As they had gotten older, Celine, nowhere near as smart as her sister, had grown jealous and distant. Neither Celine or Grace's parents were happy with her decision to join the Marines. But Grace didn't care. She went anyway. When she went to her local recruiting office she was laughed at. But that didn't deter her in any way. She was determined to prove she could do it. She wasn't going to do a GI Jane and shave her head or anything to look more masculine. Grace wanted to prove feminine girls could be Marines. Boot camp was hell, the men there tried to take advantage and sexually assault her on more than one occasion, despite the sexual assault, Grace just grit her teeth and got on with it. And she survived. She graduated boot camp and went on to train as a Sniper. She spent the next ten years of her life in the army. Despite the fact that her parents never approved her career choice Grace went home when she got the chance. She just felt like - she had to. During a break she spent in New York when she was twenty eight, Grace fell head over heals in love with Kevin Palmer, the owner of a huge publishing company. Their whirlwind romance was like a fairytale, and within three days they had gone to Vegas and eloped. They spent a two week honey moon in Barbados, but tragedy struck when they arrived back in New York at JFK Airport. Kevin was shot as he and Grace were just getting into their limo. He died in hospital. Grace was heart broken. Before she left for the Marines she had a visit from Kevin's lawyers who told her he had in the short space of time they had been together - left her everything. Grace would never have to work again. But Grace couldn't cope with that. Rather than deal with her loss, Grace did what she did best. Went back to the Marines. With her Marine unit, she felt at home, having proved herself as tough as the boys. It seemed that this year was determined to be disaster for Grace. She was serving in Iraq at the time, and was attacked by a lion whilst on a scouting mission to find a suitable place to take out a target. She woke up in hospital, to discover she had quite possibly contracted lycanthropy. Grace dismissed the thought, until the next full moon - when she
shifted. She was spotted by one of the members of her squad, a hard
ass jerk whom she had never gotten on with, who blabbed, and Grace was
sent to Washington, where she was dishonourably discharged from
service. She was penalised for sleeping with her Senior Officer, but
really it was just an excuse to get her out cause she was a Marine.
At a complete loss Grace didn't know what to do. She hung around
Washington for a while as she gained control of her beast, discovered
her new abilities. It gave her a boot, and made her determined to be
the best lycan she could be, like she had been the best Marine she
could be. And it worked. She became an Alpha, but for some reason, no
Pride would take her. Grace moved from city to city, taking temp jobs
for the next few years, but got nothing. She got the impression that
Prides were afraid of her. Eventually she returned home to Chicago.
She was drinking in a bar one night before gathering up the courage to
go home and face her parents when two guys tried to hit on her. She
said no, but they kept trying. Eventually taking the hint when she
punched one of them and broke their nose, starting a bar room brawl.
In which Grace fought, but made her way out unscathed. On the way back
to her hotel room, she was accosted by another man, who introduced
himself as Corbin Walker. And he had an offer for her. A Pride, and a
position. Grace was suspicious, but figured, what the hell,
particularly when he offered her the Aker position. So Grace found a
home in the Chicago Pride.
