Description

Byron likes learning things. He was trained by his mother to use things he learns to the best of his advantage, get something out of the knowledge. While Byron tells himself these days he's just a little nosy and maybe gossipy. But there are times when he can't help himself and will revert to his old blackmail ways. Helped along by the fact he's very attractive, again something he was raised to exploit, to get people to trust him. His attractiveness draws people to him. He's charming and easy going, and something of a rebel, which makes people like him and pay attention to in a don't want to but really have to know what's going on kind of way. But Byron also has a habit of getting attached very easy to people who do let him in, he never really had many routs or friends as a child, so never formed any close relationships, so when he is lucky to find a friend, or a potential lover, he is very loyal, but can get a little over bearing sometimes, even bordering on possessive, desperate to find a connection and reason to hang around.

Magical Talent

Byron has taken after his mother in inheriting her Arcane powers. His favourite talent is his Astral Projection ability. When he first started practising the magical ability it was used as an escape method, he could be somewhere else for a time and not have to think about his life, just watch others living theirs. It was doing that, that piqued his curiosity into the things he learned about people. His mom took complete advantage of it in using her gift for black mail and trying to exploit that of her children's and teach them to use it for hustling as well. Germaine noted that Byron had a particularly good Aura-vision, and trained him ruthlessly to use it as a weapon, to the point where he can manipulate and stun with it. As he grew older and broke away on his own, its not a talent Byron likes to use. As he grew into his teens he developed a talent for palmistry, it gives him a good excuse to get close to people. He tries to tell them positive things to make them feel good, even if he has to lie.

Appearance

Byron is tall in height, standing at 6'4, but wiry and lithe rather than built up and muscular. His skin is very pale, yet completely flawless, almost feminine in its softness and beauty. Byron is more beautiful than handsome, but carries it with an air of mystery, and something almost quirky about him that makes him appear desirable. His nose is quite large, and a little on the flat side, but works well within his face. His lips are full, and elegantly sculpted. Byron's eyes are a deep blue, and look like a very still pond, where anything can reflect in the surface and you will never know unless you put your foot in what lies in the depth. His hair is thick, worn a little long, unless slicked back for formal wear, a dark chocolate brown in colour.

Familiar

Jeanie started off as a classic pet. Byron couldn't make his mind up on a familiar, and when an acquaintance came into the bar he worked, Cat's Eye, one night, with hamsters to get rid of, he couldn't say no, cause the girl he was flirting with thought they were so cute, so he took one. And after a few days, he knew he'd finally found a familiar. Jeanie is an adorable little creature, she's small, about the size of a fist, with beady little black eyes and fluffy, white fur with hints of pink and gold. She's very friendly and loves exploring, learning things, which makes her a good companion for Byron's curious nature. She's very playful, and enjoys being stroked and fussed over. Jeanie is inquisitive, and is able to handle herself, left to her own devices. She's an explorer and not afraid to check things out for Byron, and if there's something Jeanie isn't happy about, she'll let him know. She may look cute and cuddly, but she's not always a ball of fluff.

Information

History

Byron never knew who his father was. He wasn't given any sugar coating during his child hood, told bluntly by Germaine, his mother, how the world worked. Rich people ran everything, and everyone else were just slaves. However, Witches like Germaine, Emily and himself could do magic, and that gave them an advantage; and they could use that magic to get themselves up in the world. The family lived in the bad part of Las Vegas, away from the glitz and glamour of the Strip and tourist areas.

Germaine had a few witch friends, who felt they deserved better and used their magic's for profitable gain. The idea was using magic to bring in revenue, exploit the tourists.

Byron's family were descended from Arcane witches, Mom used her divination powers to find easy Arcane males to exploit. Emily was a great charm maker, while Byron was good at aura sensing and manipulation.

Mom's friends were a mixture of Arcane and Blood witches. Blood magic made Byron uncomfortable, but when he learned of the Arcane's ability for astral projection, it became his method of escape, he didn't have to be there, even if it was only for a few minutes, he could be somewhere else.

When Byron was six and Emily was eleven, Germaine made a potion for a client that backfired. Something in the spell had gone wrong, an incorrect incantation, or maybe the potion had been switched or even cursed. No one ever really knew. But the result ended up in a dead client all the same. Germaine panicked, hoping her friends would help her out. But her friends were just as panicked by the dead client. If Germaine stayed, they believed everyone could be at risk and so could their "business".

Germaine took her children and fled from city to city, town to town for years, never really settling down anywhere. Germaine never explained why. She just said nothing felt comfortable and when somewhere did, they would stay. Emily muttered once to Byron it was probably because their mother was afraid one of the tourists she'd conned would recognise her, no matter how unlikely that was. Mom used her magic for hustling and black mail, teaching her kids to do the same. Sometimes Byron enjoyed it, scaring the humans, playing with them, but most of the time, he found himself more bored with it than anyone. He met other witches with the same ideas as Germaine, but they never stayed long enough for him to ever really feel connected to anyone and it made him feel sad and lonely. Emily went away to college at New York, she was smart and brainy, and Germaine thought if Emily got a good job if she went to university, she could support the family.

Emily was happy to go, but Byron thought it was just so Emily could escape Germaine and their not so glamorous life style. Byron wanted to go with her, but remained with Germaine. When they went to New York to visit Emily one year, Germaine met a man she fell in love with. Aleric was an investment banker who worked on Wall Street. He was an Earth witch, and had surprising social and moral values. He couldn't understand what the guy could ever see in Germaine, he was nice, for one thing. He probably had a hero complex and wanted to save them or something. It looked like Germaine had finally got her wish, a rich man. Byron admitted once to Emily when he did see her once, he wondered if Germaine had used magic, Emily doubted it considering the other guy was a witch.

Byron never went to college, never quite as brainy as Emily. He continued to move around, looking for a place to call home, eventually settling in the town of Salem.
